Understanding Post Types in TRUE Fence

What are Post Types?

In the TRUE Fence Catalog, "Post Type" tells the system what kind of post you're using. This field is only visible when the “Category” of “Post” is selected for a product. This required field helps make sure you have the right number and type of posts for each job. If a post type is not set, the system will likely be unable to include a correct post count.

Why Post Types Matter

TRUE Fence uses post type to assign the calculated quantities in TRUE Draw to an actual product. This helps to ensure:

  • The material list will be accurate
  • Inventory counts are accurate
  • Jobs will run smoother

Types of Posts

There are two main groups of “Post Types” that we allow you to configure in the TRUE Fence Catalog:

Single Post Type

These are for fences that use posts that do only one job.

Post Type Description Example
Line Used to represent the “line” post for a product line. Pre-routed or in-house routed vinyl posts for straight fence runs.
Corner Used to represent the “Corner” post for a product line. Pre-routed aluminum posts for two fence segments that connect at a corners
End Used to represent the “Corner” post for a product line. Pre-routed ornamental posts to connect the end of fence segment not connected to another
Gate Used to represent the “Gate” post for a product line. Specialized posts for gate support (latch side).

Combined Post Types

These are for posts that can do more than one job

Click here to see Combined Post Types

Post Type Description Example
Corner/End Usable for both corner and end posts Chain link terminal posts
Line/Corner/End Single product that represents all post types Blank wood posts suitable for any position
Gate/End Single product that represents a gate and end posts Vinyl posts with optional gate inserts

How to Choose the Right Post Type

  1. For pre-cut posts with routes built in to receive a fence:
    • Use single post types
  2. For posts that can go anywhere:
    • Use combined post types
  3. For gate posts:
    • If the post is different from other posts (IE: Larger), use the "Gate" type
    • If they're the same as end posts, use "Gate/End" type

Common Mistake to Avoid

Problem Only adding one post type to a fence assembly
What happens TRUE Fence will only count that one type of post, even if you need others
How to fix it Add all the post types you need to your fence design. This can be individual “Line”, “Corner”, “End” OR using a combined post “Line/Corner/End”.
Example Two 12 foot sections connect at a corner. You choose a product in your Catalog with the following configuration:

Incorrect Fence Panel Assembly - 6' x 6' Vinyl Fence Fencing
Product Build - “Components” Product Category
5" x 5" x 108" Line Post Post
2" Pickets Other
uChannels Other
5.5" Rails Other
